Lusérn/Luserna (Trentin Südtirol)

Kurzbeschreibung

Luserna (Lusérn) is a village in the province of Trent which has retained its ancient Bavarian language, also known as Cimbro and still spoken by 90 % of the 300 inhabitants. Cimbrian settlement on the plateaus of Trentino originates from the C. 13th, when Prince Bishop Frederick of Vanga promoted immigration from the 13 Communities north of Verona and the 7 Communities around Asiago. These had been populated by settlers from Bavaria (as attested in an early document from Benediktbeuern Abbey in Bavaria from 1053 A.D.). Lusern is situated 1333 m. above sea-level at the centre of the plateau between Lavarone and Asiago, and is surrounded by pastureland, largely mountain pastures, and forests crossed by a network of forestry roads and footpaths. The » Luserna Documentation Centre organises exhibitions, runs the local museum Haus von Prükk, a pinacothek and the Fort of Lusern, a relic of the First World War. The Kulturinstitut Lusérn promotes the Cimbrian language in schools, edits publications and videos for children. It also organises language courses and the local TV news programme » Zimbar Earde.
